Jacobs up for season By Stephen Harris Tuesday, September 13, 2005 - Updated: 07:28 AM EST
Once typically described as ``the reclusive Bruins owner,'' Jeremy Jacobs has been ubiquitous the last year or two, popping up with regularity to answer media questions. He was on hand at the B's press luncheon yesterday. Here's a sample of his comments:
On his expectations: ``The Bruins are very talented. I think we've really improved the team from where we were. We've got a lot more skill out there than we did before. I look forward to a great year.''
On manpower changes: ``I wish we could have kept some of the players we didn't keep (he named Mike Knuble and Michael Nylander in a recent Herald interview). I wish we had acted a little differently than we did. We anticipated it to be a little different than it turned out. But we did enrich the team tremendously in skill. We have a clever management that understands the game. We were able to take advantage of the marketplace.''
On the B's payroll: ``You're going to see one of the most expensive teams in all of hockey playing here this year. We're spending most of the money up to the (salary) cap.''
On the high cost of free agents: ``It's not only the money I saw thrown around, it's some of the money I threw around, too. That surprised me, that we had to pay as much as we did for players. But we had to do it.'' | |
