Luck o’ the Irish shines on power chowers

Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas choked and fittingly a young upstart named Patrick scarfed more than 5 pounds of corned beef and cabbage to win the GoldenPalace.net’s St. Patty’s Day Eating Championship at Ned Devine’s in Faneuil Hall yesterday.
Chicago competitive eater Patrick Bertoletti downed 5.75 pounds of corned beef and cabbage in 10 minutes, besting a field of power chowers that included Eric “Badlands” Booker, Tim “Eater X” Janus and local fave “Crazy Legs” Conti of Belmont to win a $2,500 purse.
Which oughta buy a lotta Rolaids!
“Citizens of Ireland view this contest in the same way citizens of Boston view the Super Bowl,” said a rather-prone-to-exaggeration Richard Shea, president of the International Federation of Competitive Eating. “Bertoletti will be a hero throughout Ireland and the Celtic world.”
Thomas, the No. 2-ranked eater in the world, was the favorite going into the Irish pigout.
“Most men succumb to the ‘meat sweats’ earlier than attractive women,” Crazy Legs explained. “Sonya will likely eat six pounds and have a pleasant glow about her.”
Ah, no. More like a wearin’ o’ the green around the gills!
And speaking of which, C.L. did die his goatee green in honor of the season. Legs heads out today to South Padre Island in Texas to host the GoldenPalace.net Intercollegiate Eating Championship. The discipline?: Huevos Rancheros. Ew.
Then it’s on to Panama City, Fla. for Key Lime Pie. Like Bode Miller, Crazy Legs will be holed up in style in a luxury RV - in this case, the GoldenPalace.com traveling museum, which contains all the wacky stuff the online casino has purchased on eBay over the years. The collection includes the Virgin Mary Grilled Cheese Sandwich, the Lincoln French Fry and William Shatner’s kidney stone.
